Director's Bio

Director's Notes

Carol Pineau is a journalist who has specialized in Africa for more than 10 years.  She is the producer and director of the award-winning documentary, Africa Open for Business, a groundbreaking film voted BBC Documentary of the Year.   

Africa Open for Business, which covered entrepreneurship across the continent, was expanded to a three part series for BBC World and aired on public television in the US.  She is currently in post-production on her next documentary, Kenya Stories.

Africa Open for Business was awarded a CINE Golden Eagle and screened at the Cannes Film Festival where Ms. Pineau was presented the “Africa Vision Award,” and at several high level venues, including the World Economic Forum, where Ms. Pineau was a plenary speaker, United Nations, US State Department, US Congress, and the US-Africa Business Summit where Ms. Pineau was the honoree. 

Ms. Pineau was posted in Nairobi (VOA) and Eritrea (CNN and AFP), where she covered major news stories, including the US Embassy bombings, Sudan famine, Ethiopian/Eritrean war, and Rwanda genocide trials.  Prior to living in Africa, she was based in Paris where she reported and hosted Crossroads, a weekly radio show on Africa for Radio France Internationale (RFI).   
Ms. Pineau is the author of numerous articles as well as a book.  She currently lives in Washington, DC with her husband and daughter.
